Objective
Reduce the risk of parking tickets for delivery drivers.
Motivation
A parking ticket in NYC can cost up to $115 or more, constituting a large percentage of money earned by a driver on a given day. For the most part, delivery services optimize for the customer, not necessarily the driver.
Questions:
- For all relevant questions below, how are current companies managing this?
- Doordash
- UberEATs
- Postmates
- Grubhub
- Local Restaurants
- Franchises (e.g. Pizza Delivery)
- How many parking/stopping/standing tickets are issued in NYC on a given day, week, month, year?
- When are parking/standing/stopping tickets most prevalent? Near end of quarter for police to reach quota? Less on holidays, more on start of week?
- How many parking violations are issued to delivery drivers? How many delivery drivers are active in NYC?
- For these parking violations, how easy is it to have ticket glossed over by court? How many cases are won or lost? Why do they win or lose? How many instances do drivers just pay the ticket instead of attending court? What are the most commonly cited reasons? 6. What is the process for registering as a commercial vehicle? How much benefit does this end up gaining? How are ticket violations and trials changed when regarding commercial vehicles vs. not? Consider previous question for that.
- Are there regions that tend to get more tickets than not?
- How long does a typical delivery take? How about picking up food or dropping food off? How long does a car tend to be left alone?
- How do current operations deal with parking? For example, Scoot? Do current services provide map for drivers?
- There exist a stipulated find program in NYC; can I take advantage of this? Members join my fleet and gain this ability?
- What are some ideas for improving driver experience?
- Based on delivery location (maybe apartment complex with many flights), let driver know when is best to call that they’ll arrive shortly.
- Provide basic map showing where you are allowed to park or not, zooming out as you get closer to the destination.
- Give concept of risk factor, and likeliness of tickets based on other drivers. Want to establish community with drivers.
- In this sense, any notion of community sharing? Sharing meters perhaps for other drivers to use?
- Don’t necessarily choose fastest route, but route most in-line with expected prep time at pick-up location. Likewise want to know this information, taking in account business or perhaps calling the restaurant.
